Sonja Bräunl is a German-Australian dancer who was born and grew up in Perth, Western Australia. At the age of three she started her ballet training at the Perth School of Ballet. Later she was also a Trainee of the Interstate Training Program at the Australian Ballet School in Melbourne. At the age of 16, she danced as a Guest and Seasonal Artist with the West Australian Ballet. In the Corps de ballet, she performed in Javier Torres‘ The Sleeping Beauty (2021) and Krzysztof Pastor’s Swan Lake (2022). In Ballet to Broadway she also danced in George Balanchine’s Who cares?
Later she attended the Graduate College of Dance in Perth and took part in the Prix de Lausanne in 2023, where she was invited to the John Cranko School. She moved to Stuttgart later that year upon completion of her high school degree to continue her ballet training at the John Cranko School, from which she graduated in 2025.
In the 2025/2026 season, Sonja Bräunl is an apprentice with the Stuttgart Ballet.
